# Create and use a reusable prompt

> Publish message text, insert it into a composer and fill its gaps before sending.

A reusable prompt inserts text you would otherwise type. You can edit that text before sending. It has no per-chat enablement.

You need Forge authoring access to create or revise a prompt. A reader can use a permitted published version.

## Author and publish

1. Open **Forge → Prompts** and create a prompt with a clear title.
2. Write the message in **Editor**. Use literal gaps for information the user must supply.
3. Save the draft and inspect it for private data or unintended instructions.
4. Open **Versions** and publish the intended text.

For example:

```text theme={null}
Summarise {{document or passage}} for {{audience}}.
Separate supported findings, inferences and unresolved questions.
Cite the source passages that support each material finding.
```

The fields are gaps for the reader. Even a gap named `{{date}}` is not filled automatically.

## Insert and inspect the message

Open the intended chat. From the composer **+** menu, choose **Use a prompt** and select its published version.

In an empty composer, the body becomes the draft. In an existing draft, it is inserted at the cursor. Check its position before submitting.

You can also use the `/` menu. A prompt without gaps can remain a collapsed command pill. Expand it when you want to edit the full text. A prompt with gaps expands for editing; use Tab to move between recognised gaps.

Replace every gap and inspect the complete message. Unfilled gaps reach the model literally. In a shared composer, collaborators can see and edit the draft under the chat's normal rules.

## Verify reuse

Send one small permitted task and inspect the stored message and answer. A published revision affects later insertions; it does not rewrite earlier messages.

Use a [skill](/vantage/create-reusable-methods/reusable-skill) when the model needs an enabled procedure. A reusable prompt is separate from a system-prompt template and an agent definition.
